Phreesia Unveils New Tool to Help Clinicians Document the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit

The new form saves practices significant staff time and ensures accurate reimbursement

New York, N.Y.—September 14, 2011—Beginning in 2011, those covered by Medicare Part B are now entitled to an annual exam focused on defining and implementing a personalized prevention plan. Phreesia, the patient check-in company, has released a new application that helps physicians document the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit (AWV), maximizing productivity and ensuring accurate and efficient reimbursement. Phreesia’s electronic Medicare Annual Wellness Visit Form—the first such electronic form presented to patients during check-in—saves clinicians an average of 15 minutes of paperwork per patient, and allows them to spend more time interacting directly with patients.

“Like many physicians, I feel the squeeze of more demands on my time and my staff. With its new Medicare Annual Wellness Visit Form, Phreesia has given me a product that better manages the financial and information-acquisition aspects of my practice, while reducing hands-on staff time,” explains Kerry Willis, MD, East Carteret Family Medicine, Chairman and CEO of The Beacon Company/Atlantic Integrated Health. “With Phreesia’s form, we are able to run our practice much more efficiently and profitably, and it has given us more time to care for patients and practice medicine the way it should be practiced.”

Currently used by thousands of clinicians in all 50 states, Phreesia replaces the patient clipboard with a self-service, touchscreen kiosk, the PhreesiaPad, which electronically collects and updates critical patient information, verifies insurance and collects payments during check-in. Phreesia’s unique ability to directly engage patients at the point of care makes it an optimal platform for documenting the AWV. After patients complete their intake interview on the PhreesiaPad, the AWV Form—including a complete list of risk factors and recommended interventions—can be automatically printed or attached to an electronic health record. This electronic process measurably improves upon the traditional and time-consuming process by which clinicians would manually fill out the form and handwrite a list of risk factors and recommended interventions for each patient. Moreover, Phreesia’s solution promotes detailed documentation of the AWV, ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement for clinicians.

Dr. Sharon Fleishman, Phreesia’s Senior Manager, Clinical Products and Research, says, “Phreesia is committed to enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery, and with our new Medicare Annual Wellness Visit Form, we are maintaining a strong focus on preventive medicine. Our solution helps physicians document this visit in a comprehensive manner, providing a seamless experience for both patients and office staff.”
